My Working Day

Text 1

As a rule I get up at 6 o’clock. First I make my bed and do my morning exercises, then I wash, clean my teeth and dress. I go to the kitchen and make my breakfast myself. I usually have an egg, bread and butter, and a cup of tea or coffee for breakfast. At breakfast I always watch morning news on TV.
As I live far from my school, I leave home at 7.30. I go to school by bus and by metro. The bus stop is right in front of my house. It takes me about an hour to get to school. I’m always on time for classes, which begin at 8.30. I usually stay at school till 3 o’clock. We have classes five days a week, except Saturday and Sunday.
I never go home right after classes. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I play chess in the school chess club. On other days I either stay in the school library to get ready for my classes or go to my friend’s place.
I come home at about 6 and start doing my home work for the next day. My parents come home at 7 and at 8 we have supper together. During supper we speak about the latest news and share our impressions of the day.
After supper I help mother to wash up. Then I go to the sitting room and watch TV. At 11 o’clock I go to my room and read a little before I go to sleep.

Text 2

My working day begins at 7 o’clock when my alarm clock rings and I get up. I don’t do morning exercises. Instead I take my dog out for a walk, and it is a good exercise for me. When we return home, my dog has his morning meal and I take a shower. By that time my mother has cooked breakfast and I eat it. Then I wash up and dress for school.
It doesn’t take me long to get to school since it’s around the corner. School classes begin at 8.30 and are over at 2 or 3. I sometimes stay at school after classes. Twice a week I train in the gym and on Wednesday we have an optional class in Russian Literature, which I never miss. On other days I go straight home. On the way home I call at the baker’s and buy some bread. Sometimes I go shopping after school if my mother asks me to buy some food.
When I come home, I have dinner and listen to my favourite music. Then I call some of my classmates, and by 5 o’clock I am ready to do my next day’s homework. It may take me from two to four hours to prepare for the next day’s classes. I usually spend more time on History, Social Science and Literature because I have to read a lot of additional materials besides school textbooks.
Then my parents come home from work and at about 7 o’clock we have supper and discuss family problems. Then I go to my room and read a book. If there is an interesting programme or a film on TV, I watch it till late at night. If there’s nothing special to see, I can go to bed at 11 o’clock.
All my weekdays are nearly the same, there’s no time left for entertainment or meeting with my friends.

Text 3

My working day usually begins at six o’clock sharp. I have to get up early in the morning as I live far from my school. I usually wake up by alarm clock. But as I often keep late hours sometimes my mother has to wake me up. I usually sleep with the ventillation pane open and it is quite chilly in the room in the morning. After getting up I make my bed. I am fond of jogging that is why whatever the weather might be I leave the house at half past six and jog in the park which is near our house. I wish my brother jogged with me, but he says it is too hard for him to do any morning exercises when he is still sleepy.
At a quarter past seven I am back and go to the bathroom to have a shower. In fifteen minutes I am ready for breakfast. By this time my parents have already left for their offices. I do not have to cook my breakfast as mother always leaves me something to eat. People say breakfast should be the most substantial meal of the day, but I do not like to eat much in the morning. A couple of sandwiches with tea is enough for me.
Before going to school I have a quarter of an hour for revising my homework.
I leave home when the clock strikes eight. It takes me about half an hour to get to school. I can go there by bus but I hate public transport. You usually have to wait for a long time and besides our buses are always overcrowded during the rush hours. So I prefer walking.
My classes begin at half past eight. We have seven lessons every day but Mondays and Wednesdays when we have eight. The classes are over at about three o’clock.
I hurry home to have lunch. After lunch I let myself rest for a while and then begin to do my homework. In junior forms I used to go to the tennis court. I am fond of tennis. I went in for tennis for 6 years and had my trainings twice a week. But last year I had to deprive myself of this pleasure as I needed more time for studies.
After several minutes of doing nothing and lying on the sofa I am ready to do my homework. My parents do not like when I lie motionlessly on the sofa instead of having a little walk. But I do not think that it is a waste of time because after that I feel refreshed.
I’m used to doing difficult lessons first. These are physics, mathematics and chemistry. After that I go shopping and buy everything my mother asks me. Then my parents come back home and we have dinner at half past seven. After that I go on doing the other lessons. At ten o’clock I finish preparing my lessons and have some spare time which I usually spend on either reading a book or watching TV. At about eleven o’clock my mother reminds me of my getting up early in the morning. I go to bed rather unwillingly but fall asleep in some minutes.
